Open Science Stack (OSS) is a volunteer-driven, non-profit initiative building digital public infrastructure (DPI) for AI-powered science labs.

Our platform serves as the foundation for building programmable and AI-driven science labs across a wide variety of experimental sciences — from drug discovery and materials science to advance chemistry, synthetic biology, and renewable energy.

OSS is supported by the Red Black Trust and ARTPark, the AI and Robots incubation hub at IISc, Bengaluru.

Our mission

To enable Indian researchers to lead globally in scientific innovation by democratizing access to world-class, AI-driven science labs.. Towards this, create a national network of domain-specific AI science labs. The specialization areas of the nodes of this network will reflect India’s strategic priorities. By doing so, OSS will enable access to fully-equipped AI science labs to researchers.

Founding team

The founding team of volunteers at OSS have experience in startups and academia across AI/ML, robotics, languages, embedded systems, and scalable cloud architecture.

Our journey

    • 2026: Built a reference lab for drug discovery use-cases at ARTgarage (ARTpark, IISc)
    • 2025: Designed and implemented the initial versions of the cloud science lab
    • 2024: Open-sourced the ROS2-based Robotic Application Stack (RAS) at ROSCon 2024
    • 2023: Built ROS-based prototype of the robotics capabilities

Join the movement

As labs evolve from manual labs to cloud labs and AI science labs, science will graduated from manual trial-and-error experiments to autonomous, self-driving labs. This will free up scientists to focus on profound breakthroughs.

Whether you’re a researcher, developer, policymaker, or innovator, join us to shape the future of scientific discovery!
